Education and Detention Programming

The Washoe County School District (WCSD) provides certified school teachers during the traditional school year. Wittenberg Hall follows the WCSD traditional school schedule, following all observed holidays and school district breaks.  Summer school may be provided.

Juveniles have two avenues to obtain school credits while detained:

  • The Edgenuity computer-based program is utilized in our classroom. The WCSD places juveniles in classes based on their class schedules similar to their school in the community.
  • Parents/Guardians may bring in class assignments from the juvenile's regular school. These assignments must first be approved by Detention Management and Wittenberg Hall teachers.

DETENTION PROGRAMMING

Wittenberg Hall offers educational programming through Washoe County School District, youth development programming, and self-help programs for our detained youth.  Programs may include:

  • Foster Grandparent Program
  • Sierra Nevada Arts Program

  • Yoga
  • Competency Development Programming

Incentive-Based Program (IBP)Wittenberg Hall has an incentive-based program that fosters positive behavior, individual responsibility and accountability.  The goal of IBP is to provide clear expectations of positive behavior by utilizing a scoring system.  Based on points earned by the juveniles it allows them more incentives within the detention center.  Incentives may include: ·

  • Additional phone calls
  • Later bedtime
  • Additional snacks
  • Pizza party
